움: UM – Kimchi Workshop Vol. 1

움: UM is a new Berlin-based community food project initiated by two Korean high school friends who reconnect after 15 years to explore Korean food culture in a transnational context. Through local and seasonal ingredients, we experiment with adapting Korean recipes to what grows here—creating sustainable and shared food practices.

For our first workshop, we begin with kimchi.

The session includes:
A short introduction to kimchi—its history, cultural meaning, and and the fermentation process
A hands-on kimchi-making session (you will make your own batch)
A printed recipe card to take home
A shared meal featuring bossam (boiled pork), tofu, and freshly made kimchi

In Korea, making kimchi is rarely an individual act—it is something done together, and almost always followed by eating together. This workshop follows that spirit.

As this is our very first workshop, we see it as an experiment and would love to receive feedback from participants.

The workshop runs on a donation basis. A donation of 30–40 EUR is recommended to cover ingredients, drinks, the shared feast, and venue use.
