Chicha Making Workshop by Daniela Zambrano Almidón

Daniela Zambrano Almidón is a Peruvian Quechua artist currently based in Berlin.

This workshop is part of OO Lab vol.2, an interdisciplinary research project exploring the theme of „Breeding,“ this year’s edition examining domestication, cultivation, and the entangled histories of human and non-human life.

The workshop introduces participants to the making of chicha, a fermented corn drink rooted in Andean tradition, offering a direct encounter with fermentation as a form of breeding: the cultivation of microbial life alongside human intention and care, and a reminder that these microbes have in turn shaped human bodies, diets, and habits over time. Participants will take part in each stage of the process, from mixing to tasting the finished drink together.
