Kitchen Talk on Solidarity
Nomads North Euroasian Indigenous Community invite to an open discussion
Sunday 28t April 17h
studio nagelneu | Hermannstr. 103, 12051 Berlin
With this friendly conversation-like discussion, we would like to address the questions of solidarity among liberation/decolonial/anti-imperial movements and groups. Bringing to the table our backgrounds and positionalities, as people of color in academia and as activists and allies, we will touch upon the everyday acts of resistance and the nodes of solidarity we encounter throughout our collaborative works and friendship.
We will talk about how our racialized struggles are intersectional and stretch across borders, genders, queer identities, ethnicities, and class divisions. During the discussion, we will draw examples of non-white Russians‘ experience of Russian imperialism/colonialism, the lives of Muslim and Dalit people within Islamophobic and castiest structures of the far-right Hindu government in India, and examples of imposed and proxy wars and occupation of the Arab countries as well as racism and violence against people of the Arab world throughout different geographies.
We will discuss how we can amplify each other voices in Western, Russian, white, colonial, Brahmanical power structures, that present themselves in different forms but operated by the same logic, from within which speaking on our own puts us in vulnerable positions and from within which we must unite voices to be heard. We intend to use excerpts from academic writings and books as entry points to discuss in an accessible and everyday language what they mean and speak to us.
In the second part of the event, we invite everyone interested to share their experience of struggle, resistance, and solidarity as well as to bring questions and issues for further discussion.
